Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation. A sterile blade is drawn across the surface of the skin at an angle to lift away the fine vellus hair, often called peach fuzz, along with the layer of dull, dry cells sitting on top.
It is a surface service with no downtime. You leave with skin that feels noticeably smoother to the touch and looks brighter, and you can go back to your day.
It is a cosmetic exfoliation and a skin-finishing service, not a treatment for a skin condition. If you have an active skin concern, that belongs with your doctor or dermatologist, and Martha will say so rather than work around it.
What it actually changes
The most immediate difference is how makeup sits. Foundation catches on peach fuzz and on flaky patches, which is where that separated, textured look comes from. Take both away and the same foundation lies flat.
The second difference is light. A layer of dull surface cells scatters light unevenly, so skin reads tired. Removing it is why people describe the result as brightness rather than as smoothness.
What it does not do is change your pore size, your pigment, or anything below the surface. Being clear about that up front is the difference between being happy with the result and expecting the wrong thing.
The peach fuzz question
No, the hair does not grow back thicker or darker. This is the single most common question about dermaplaning, and the answer has not changed.
